We look beyond the behaviour to understand what is really going on for the person. Our Functional Behaviour Assessments bring together the person’s story, strengths, environment, relationships, communication, sensory needs, mental health and lived experience to understand what behaviour may be communicating and what support could make a meaningful difference.

Our Behaviour Support Plans are designed to be used — not just filed away. We develop practical, person-centred plans that help the people around the participant understand them better, recognise what they need and respond consistently. Our focus is on prevention, connection, skill building, quality of life and strategies that make sense in the person’s everyday world.

Complex doesn’t mean too difficult. At Darwell, we are comfortable working alongside people with complex and overlapping disability, mental health, trauma, psychosocial and behavioural support needs. We take the time to understand the whole picture rather than viewing a person through their diagnosis or behaviour alone.

Great plans need great implementation. We work alongside families, carers and support teams to turn behaviour support strategies into practical, everyday approaches. Training is tailored to the person and their team, with a focus on building confidence, consistency and a shared understanding of what good support looks like.

Our goal is always to support people in the least restrictive way possible. Where restrictive practices are in place, we work with the person and their support network to understand why they are being used, monitor their impact and identify realistic opportunities for reduction. We focus on building safer alternatives while protecting the person’s rights, dignity, choice and quality of life.

We believe the best outcomes happen when everyone is connected and working towards the same goal. We listen to participants and value the knowledge of families, carers, support teams and other professionals. By collaborating openly and respectfully, we can build support that is consistent, realistic and centred around what matters to the person.

Where you live shouldn’t determine the quality of support you can access. Darwell provides telehealth and flexible behaviour support to participants, families and teams in rural and remote communities. We can provide assessment, Behaviour Support Plans, stakeholder consultation, implementation support and team training remotely, with face-to-face support considered where needed.
